Index Cantorum presents a winter concert inspired by Candlemas – the Christian festival that marks the end of the Christmas season. Once celebrated with the blessing of candles, Candlemas today evokes renewal and the slow awakening of the world to spring after winter’s darkness. Reflecting this mood, Index Cantorum offers a programme of expressive sacred and secular choral music from the Renaissance to the contemporary, including masterpieces by Tallis, Byrd, Rachmaninov and Holst. A perfect reflection for midwinter.
